Alan Pardew conceded it will be difficult for rock-bottom West Brom to avoid relegation after losing 2-1 to Huddersfield on Saturday.
Second-half goals from Rajiv van La Parra and Steve Mounie came before Craig Dawson pulled one back for West Brom, with Huddersfield clinging on to boost their own hopes of survival.
The defeat leaves West Brom seven points from safety with 10 Premier League games to go, leaving the club on the brink after eight years in the top tier.
Asked if it will be tough for West Brom to save this season, Pardew replied: "I think it is. Three wins in 37 games says it all really - we've got to find a way.
"However we get it, maybe it can spark us into life. We've got players who can perform better than they have done today. We need to bring those performances to the pitch somehow."
Pardew was bullish when quizzed on his own future at The Hawthorns, saying he hopes to continue at the helm, though he conceded the decision is out of his hands.
"You have to persist in your values and in what you think is right," Pardew added. "We'll set our team up as strong as we can next week and try a game of football."
The defeat at home to Huddersfield felt damaging for West Brom's prospects, for it also handed three points to a club also fighting for survival.
And while Huddersfield have now secured back-to-back league victories, West Brom are now winless in five.
Pardew could not hide his disappointment at full-time, highlighting how two errors gifted Huddersfield the win.
"It was an ugly game. For both teams, the ball was changing hands, it was a kind of bitty game. Huddersfield put us under good pressure and made it difficult for us," Pardew said.
"Unfortunately for us we made two errors after half-time and it made it very difficult from there on in.
"I thought in terms of trying to apply ourselves, with that ability to calm down and have a passage of play, we had some moments and opportunities, but not enough really.
"We never grasped the game. It's disappointing, but I'm not going to question that part of the game."
