The FA will be seeking the observations of Huddersfield Town officials after Manchester United fans ran on the pitch during the FA Cup fifth-round tie at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

The incident happened after Romelu Lukaku's second goal sent United on their way to the quarter-finals, where they have been drawn to face Brighton, with a 2-0 victory.

It is a criminal offence to enter the field of play and questions will be asked by the FA about crowd and player safety.

The event was not the only controversial moment of the match after a Video Assisted Referee Decision [VAR] ruled out Juan Mata's opening goal in confusing fashion.

Television replays initially shown when the decision was being reviewed by VAR Neil Swarbrick were not straight but the company behind VAR - Hawk-Eye - insisted a "technical error" was responsible for the initial confusion.

"A technical issue led to an incorrect graphic being provided by Hawk-Eye to BT Sport last night," read a statement by Hawk-Eye on Sunday.

"To confirm, the VAR saw the correct image with the correct lines to make the decision. This was a case of the wrong image being provided to the broadcaster and we apologise."
