Frank de Boer would be a fantastic Rangers manager, but he may not want the job, says former team-mate Peter Lovenkrands.

Rangers are third in the Scottish Premiership, six points behind second-placed Aberdeen following a defeat to Dundee under interim manager Graeme Murty.

Mark Warbuton's exit in February has seen the club linked with a number of high-profile managers including former Ranger player De Boer, but Lovenkrands believes his former colleague may not be interested after his unsuccessful spell at Inter Milan.

De Boer on the prospect of becoming Rangers manager

"I think he's a very good candidate for it," Lovenkrands told Sky Sports News HQ. "He knows the club, so does his brother. I played with both of them and he is a fantastic character.

"I don't know if what happened at Inter, coming in midway through the season and not getting his structure in, I don't know if he maybe got his fingers burned with that - coming to Rangers midway through the season."

Lovenkrands believes Murty has a difficult task to secure the job after two unconvincing performances in his first games in charge, but stressed the importance of a quick resolution.

"Looking at the last two results it's not been very pretty," he added. "It's been tough for him, it's not easy to come in midway through the season.
