Sergio Aguero has signed Man City contract extension, says Pep Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed striker Sergio Aguero has signed a contract extension with the club.

Reports suggest the Argentina international signed the deal - which ties him to City until 2020 - in 2016, but the club made no formal announcement.

Aguero has scored 18 times in all competitions this season, with Manchester City placed fifth in the Premier League table following a 4-0 defeat at Everton last weekend.

Guardiola said: "He [Aguero] has already signed a contract extension. Sergio will be here until he decides not to be here.

"He is our best striker - we have a problem with goals so we need him. What I want is the best possible for him."

Guardiola was seen meeting Aguero at a restaurant on Thursday, but the former Barcelona boss denied reports the pair were discussing the player's future at the Etihad.

"We didn't speak about the contract," Guardiola added. "He has a lot of money and wanted to invite his coach to have dinner. That's all."
