Checkatrade Trophy round-up: Wycombe stun Millwall

Gareth Ainsworth

Wycombe claimed their second Sky Bet League One scalp in a matter of days as they knocked Millwall out of the Checkatrade Trophy.

Fresh from thumping Chesterfield 5-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday, Gareth Ainsworth's Chairboys were at it again as Adebayo Akinfenwa's penalty and two late strikes from Garry Thompson secured a 3-1 Southern Section second-round victory at The Den.

League Two side Wycombe were awarded a penalty after 51 minutes when Sid Nelson was adjudged to have tugged Stephen McGinn's shirt as he was about to shoot. Akinfenwa stepped up to convert his fifth goal of the season.

Wycombe's lead lasted less than two minutes as David Worrall's cross-shot from the right wing found its way past goalkeeper Jamal Blackman.

Millwall's Fred Onyedinma saw a penalty saved by Blackman in the 72nd minute and they were made to pay as Thompson snatched victory for the visitors - and a place in round three - with two late goals.

Marvin Sordell's solitary strike was enough for Coventry as they saw off League Two Crawley. Sordell tapped in after Jodi Jones' cross deflected into his path off Reds defender Mark Connolly.

In the Northern Section, a Nicky Law header from Filipe Morais' cross earned Bradford a 1-0 win against Cambridge.
