With the game finely poised at 1-1 heading into the final 20 minutes at Elland Road, the ball fell to Mowatt in a glorious position to put his side in front, but he somehow conspired to steer the ball wide with the goal at his mercy.

Luckily for him, however, Leeds went on to win 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw following extra time.

Highlights of the EFL Cup round of 16 match between Leeds and Norwich

Alex Pritchard had given Norwich the lead after 14 minutes of the EFL Cup fourth-round clash, before Marcus Antonsson levelled for Leeds just before half-time.

Mowatt's miss meant that the game went into an additional 30 minutes, and Chris Wood's strike for Leeds cancelled out Nelson Oliveira's goal to send the match to penalties, which the home side won 3-2.
