- SPL - HMRC want Rangers administration now
HM Revenues and Customs is set to ask for Rangers to be put into administration this week. The debt-ridden SPL champions served papers on Monday requesting 10 days to gain protection from their creditors and use that window to negotiate with HMRC over the settlement of its £50 million debt. However, HMRC is seeking to take charge of the process and have the club placed into administration as soon as possible. A statement from Rangers' accountants Duff and Phelps reads: "As a result the inability of RFC to conclude negotiations with HMRC the board of directors have filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators. "The purpose of this notice is to provide a moratorium against potential creditor actions. "Meetings are due to take place with HMRC in relation to the tax position of the company. "Management remain hopeful that with the assistance of HMRC a consensual and solvent solution can be found. In the meantime RFC is continuing to trade as usual." PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart has offered to work with Rangers owner Craig Whyte to help the club through their financial crisis. Such a move would likely lead to redundancies on the playing staff and Wishart is keen to help minimise the impact on his members but also the club itself. The former Rangers full-back told Sky Sports News: "There has been all sorts of finger-pointing and ramifications. "For me it's about working with the players and the club. "I'm hoping to meet with the owner and we can possibly work with the club and ensure there's a good enough team on the football park."
